Here's to good design

Two years ago, Sandy Kolodzinski splashed the white walls of her new Yorkville home with hues of warm oranges, cool blues and calming purples and grays.

She then cut and pasted together scraps of bamboo place mats from Pier One, and hung them as decorative art in the master bedroom. And in the dining room, she hung a piece of art by Michael Godard, famous for painting animated martini glasses. It became her inspiration to dedicate the room entirely to martinis, wine and good company.

"I watch a lot of HGTV," Kolodzinski said. "I'm a shopper, a magazine reader and I'm just always looking for new designs.
