Fed: Anderson says Telstra sale is inevitable
Acting Prime Minister JOHN ANDERSON says it's inevitable a government will sell Telstraand it will probably happen within the next five to 10 years.
He's denied a sale is imminent but says the government doesn't need to own Telstrato ensure it develops and maintains satisfactory rural services.
Mr ANDERSON says public and private ownership seems to have little to do with whethercountry areas get satisfactory services.
He's told the West Australian National Party conference in York, 96 kilometres eastof Perth, there'll be no further sale of Telstra until services are satisfactory in thebush with future safeguards.
The 70 delegates at the conference today overwhelmingly rejected a motion to disaffiliatefrom the federal body should it support a government sale of Telstra.
