Fed: HIH deputy chairman appears in Sydney court

SYDNEY, April 20 AAP - Former HIH deputy chairman Charles Abbott today faced a Sydney
court on charges relating to the failed insurer's collapse.

Abbott appeared on a summons at Downing Centre Local Court on one charge of gaining
a personal advantage at the expense of the company.

The charges relate to a $180,000 cheque Abbott was allegedly given just hours before
HIH collapsed in March 2001.

He was granted conditional bail and will reappear in the same court on June 15.
