Simulcast on broadcast, cable and radio, America: A Tribute to Heroes, was perhaps the cable industry's most visible response to the Sept. 11 attacks. It was easily the most complicated too, as organizers scrambled to put on the show and ensure the event--featuring Mariah Carey, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel among others--would be seen by as many viewers as possible.
